It’s been a busy month so far at Wesley Hall, with fundraising efforts and celebrations in full swing. We started the month with our annual Spring Fair on 2 May in aid of Church Funds. The weather was cold but the rain held off and the sun even came out occasionally! There were milkshakes, jewellery, cakes, bricabrac, lunches, toys, books and games for sale, and the new, more open layout of the vestibule worked well to draw people in.
No time to rest – the following day saw a packed church celebrating the twins’ Christening.
Saturday 9 May saw 22 people – and two dogs – turn out for a sponsored walk while others enjoyed a coffee morning, both in aid of Christian Aid.
The walk was a 6 mile stroll through Home Park, Cator Park, Alexandra Park, Wells Park and Mayow Park (and all the roads between), brilliantly organised by Steven. Along with the pleasure of discovering or rediscovering some local parks, there was a quiz to answer as we walked and a potted history of each park provided with the route map. The tea, coffee and cakes back at church were very welcome on our return!
On 10 May it was time to celebrate the Junior Church Anniversary, with young people taking part, doing readings and showing what they had been up to in their groups. As always, a brilliant themed cake was shared out during the service (we do like cake…).
And last night the Girls’ Brigade ran a Quiz Night in aid of GB funds and Demelza House, with not one but TWO May-themed rounds. A good time was had by all participants.
Of course it hasn’t been mayhem at all – it’s been really good fun, raised lots of money for good causes, and brought everyone together – watch this space and check the calendar for more events and more ways to get involved.
