You may have seen the new notice boards outside the church. The money for them was kindly donated, and for that we’re very grateful.
Why bother though? We’ve been here a long time. Let me explain: it would appear that many people don’t realise that we’re a church. Indeed, famously, we had a visiting preacher once whose satnav brought him to the traffic lights outside the church and he couldn’t find it because he didn’t realise that he was sitting right next to it!
A while ago when we had our consultation, one of the things we decided was that we needed to be more visible, more obviously a church where people can be supported and loved; where they can be encouraged to grow in faith. To be more like a city on a hill letting our light shine. No one can now say that they don’t know that we’re a Methodist church. We also hope to be able to advertise our services, events and Brigades – as you can see, the Harvest Festival service details are very visible at the moment!
In the next phase of upgrading the front of the building, the doors will be painted and draught proofed and then the inner screen will be removed to give us a more open and welcoming entrance lobby. I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved in this work so far and look forward to seeing the finished product.
